About Ethereum

Ethereum, launched in 2015 by Vitalik Buterin and collaborators, introduced smart contracts — self-executing code on a blockchain — which became the foundation for most decentralized apps, tokens, and DeFi protocols. In 2022 it switched from Proof-of-Work mining to Proof-of-Stake in an upgrade known as "the Merge."
